Agriculture Faculty - 01

Daniel Civco, professor of natural resources and the environment, is an expert in geomatics who specializes in remote sensing and geographic information systems. A University Teaching Fellow, he received the 2007 Award for Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences from the USDA.

Agriculture Faculty - 02

Valerie B. Duffy, professor of allied health sciences, teaches courses in the dietetics field. She and her students have had numerous publications and presentations at national and international meetings and are advancing nutrition and health through research, practice or public health leadership.

Salvatore Frasca, Jr., associate professor of pathobiology and veterinary science, is a veterinarian and board-certified veterinary pathologist. He advises pre-vet students and works with undergrads regarding principles of pathology in the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.

Rigoberto A. Lopez, professor of agricultural and resource economics, researches problems and issues confronting food systems with an emphasis on marketing, industrial organization and public policy. His technical expertise is research and teaching of agricultural marketing, policy and development economics.

Jason Vokoun, assistant professor of fisheries management and stream ecology, involves his students in research projects designed to help state and regional natural resource and environmental managers make better-informed decisions regarding fisheries and aquatic ecosystems.

Kathryn Barlow (’05, B.S., Agriculture and Natural Resources) works for Educational Concerns for Hunger in Fort Meyers, Fla. Following graduation, she traveled to Afghanistan with Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, where she worked on several agricultural development projects.

Adrienne Castagnola (’07, B.S., Animal Science) is a medical affairs specialist with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. While at UConn, she captained the Equestrian Team, taught horseback riding lessons, served as a tutor for the Center for Disabilities and was a Husky Ambassador.

Michele Longhi (’08, B.S., Agriculture and Natural Resources; B.S., Agricultural and Resource Economics) is currently pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin. While at UConn, Michele was a member of the College of Agriculture Undergraduate Student Council and Gamma Sigma Delta, the Agricultural Honor Society.

Raymond Covino (’02, B.S., Natural Resources) is a USDA District Conservationist and serves as the point of initial contact for Hartford and Tolland counties in Connecticut. As an undergraduate, Raymond interned with the Mayor’s Office of Environmental Coordination in New York City.

Ayla Withee (’06, B.S., Dietetics) is a nutrition educator in the Philadelphia school system working for the “Eat Right Now” program. She provides nutrition education to many schools in the district, plans community presentations and works with parents.
