Distinguished FacultyNeag Faculty - 03Sally Reis, a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor, is a nationally recognized expert in gifted and talented education and the recipient of a UConn teaching fellowship. She recently received a $3 million federal grant to conduct nationwide testing of a reading program that she successfully piloted in Connecticut schools. Neag Faculty - 01Douglas Casa, associate professor of kinesiology, is one of the nation’s pre-eminent experts on heat-related illnesses and hydration. A primary objective of his field-based research and educational outreach initiatives is to eradicate death from exertion-related heatstroke in high school, collegiate and professional sports. Neag Faculty - 04George Sugai, Neag Chair in Special Education, is an expert on positive and effective behavioral support, classroom behavior management and school-wide discipline. He works with school districts to translate research into practice by training teams of school personnel in effective strategies to improve student behavior and discipline. Neag Faculty - 02William Kraemer, professor of kinesiology, is a world-renowned expert in exercise physiology, sports medicine, strength and conditioning. An American College of Sports Medicine Fellow and editor-in-chief of The Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research, he studies scientific aspects of resistance training, aging and youth fitness. Neag Faculty - 05Hariharan Swaminathan, professor of educational psychology, is a world-renowned expert on statistics, psychometrics and evaluation. He has authored hundreds of articles, books and technical reports that have had significant impact on assessment and measurement, and is associate editor of Applied Psychological Measurement. |
Successful AlumniNeag Alumni - 01Michael Irr (’06, B.S., Exercise Science) is the new strength coach for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats, where he spends his time working to keep the professional basketball players fresh and injury-free through a grueling 82-game season. He plans to earn a master’s degree and hopes to become a college basketball coach. Neag Alumni - 02Desi Nesmith (’01, B.S., ’02, M.A., Elementary Education) is an Intervention School Resource Specialist in Hartford and provides assistance to teachers in professional development, instruction, school improvement planning and curriculum intervention. He is currently enrolled in UConn's Administrator Preparation Program. Neag Alumni - 03Brittany Richard (’05, B.S., ’06, M.A., Special Education K-12) is a Special Education Inclusion teacher for grades 3 and 4 at Batchelder Elementary School in Hartford, Conn. She had been assigned to the school for her master’s year internship and has chosen to continue serving there. Neag Alumni - 04Grace Sackey (’08, B.S., Athletic Training) is an athletic trainer with the Professional Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy clinic in New York City. After completing an internship with Equatorial Guinea’s Olympic track and field team, she was asked to join the team as an athletic trainer for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. |
