Distinguished Faculty

Engineering Faculty - 01

Ugur Pasaogullari, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, won a National Science Foundation Early Career Development Award. He hopes his research on fuel cells will help component designers develop durable, low-cost, high-performing membrane electrode assemblies, resulting in better-performing fuel cells.

Quing Zhu, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has developed a unique imaging device that, when used with ultrasound, yields more accurate breast cancer diagnoses. Last year, she was honored with a Connecticut Women of Innovation award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to science.

Jun-Hong Cui, associate professor of computer science and engineering, recently won the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award, which recognizes and supports the early career-development activities of academics who are judged likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.

Mekonnen Gebremichael, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, is 1 of 18 recipients of a NASA New Investigator Program grant in Earth Sciences. He studies changing global hydrology, chief causes of climate change and how Earth's hydrological systems respond to natural and human-induced changes.

Bryan D. Huey, assistant professor of chemical, materials and biomolecular engineering, runs the Huey Atomic Force Microscopy Lab. The group collaborates with local and international researchers in biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, education, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, medicine and physics.

Matthew Adiletta (’85, B.S., Electrical Engineering) is an Intel Fellow and Director of Communication Processor Architecture in Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group. He is currently driving the next-generation of network processors for greater packet processing capability and security in future Internet, wireless and enterprise equipment.

Timothy “Scott” Case (’92, B.S.E., Computer Science and Engineering) is co-founder of priceline.com. During his final year at UConn, he co-founded Precision Training Software, a software company that developed the world’s first PC-based simulated flight instructor and photo-realistic flight simulator.

Joel S. Douglas (’77, B.S., Civil Engineering) is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of MysticMD Inc., an early-stage, advanced materials company located at the UConn Technology Incubation Program's Avery Point incubator facility in Groton, Conn. During his career, Joel has founded or co-founded 3 start-ups.

Christine E. Endicott (’08, B.S.E., Chemical Engineering) is pursuing her Ph.D. at Cornell University. A University Honors student, she was president of Omega Chi Epsilon and interned at UTC Power on a product development team for hydrogen fuel cells in submarines.

Julie A. Pollitt (’88, B.S.E., Mechanical Engineering) is a Program Analyst in the Office of Program Analysis and Evaluations, Office of the Administrator at NASA in Washington, D.C. Her duties include product development and reporting on NASA programs and projects for the White House’s Budget and Performance Integration Initiative.
